Vicious cycle

Many people lost their lives today...

The cut is getting deeper, both sides are now drowning in the blood of their own citizens.

More innocent people will die soon when the fuel runs out and hospitals can no longer tend to their wounds.

Soon, we will all be wearing black and mourning the death of our people and our country.

Across the border, they are also mourning.

We must admit - we must remember - that love and grief are universal.

We must remember - because if this vicious cycle where to be repeated, I don't think anyone would survive...

My dear, if we could only all remember how universal grief and suffering--and joy--are, maybe we could all remember we are sisters and brothers, no matter where we live, and try to squabble peacefully--instead of this continuing fear and horror.
I can dream. So can you. May you stay safe, and hopeful.

Well, this is a first for me, leaving a response to the blog of someone whose own situation I cannot really come close to comprehending...

It should not need to be said that I hope for peace in the region, though if I'm honest I have to say I despair.

The problem, though it pains me to say this, is us - the west. Isreal is being allowed to get away with a murderous campaign that is, undeniably, hitting the civillian population of your country. That they are allowed to get away with this brings great shame on us all.

I have written to my parliamentary representatives, and also to the Israeli ambassador stating what I think of his country's conduct in no uncertain terms, but it won't change anything. We had over 2'000'000 people march on London in protest at the Iraq war but Blair just went on and ignored the people.

I know it's not this simple, but I just wish *everyone* would stop firing, go back beyond their borders, and accept that this has been a mistake for all involved.

My thoughts are with you, as are those of many of my friends.

Martin.
